Description

Keyboard navigation provides all web and app users with a fast keyboard-only navigation capability and is also part of the web accessibility features–it enables users with disabilities to fully control their website or app access through the keyboard.

By default, users can only navigate to links, buttons, and form controls with a keyboard. The navigation order in which interactive items receive keyboard focus has to be logical and intuitive. Generally, keyboard navigation logic needs to follow the visual horizontal and vertical flow of the page, for example, left to right and top to bottom, header first followed by the main and then the page navigation.

The keyboard navigation of the Kendo UI for jQuery Stepper is always available, as demonstrated in this demo.

This Stepper example is part of a unique collection of hundreds of jQuery demos, with which you can see all Kendo UI for jQuery components and their features in action. View the source code of the demos from the library or directly adapt, and edit them and their theme appearance in Kendo UI for jQuery Dojo or ThemeBuilder.

The Stepper supports the following keyboard shortcuts:

Focus

  • Alt + W Focuses the component.

Keyboard Legend

  • Shift + Tab or Left Arrow or Up Arrow Focuses the previous step.
  • Tab or Right Arrow or Down Arrow Focuses the next step.
  • Home Focuses the first step.
  • End Focuses the last step.
  • Space or Enter Selects the focused step.
  • To move the focus away from the Stepper:
Focus the last step and press Tab or Focus the first step and press Shift + Tab

Select on Focus

  • When the Select-on-focus mode of the Stepper is enabled, the selection in the Stepper will move together with the focus. Moving the focus to another step by using the Tab or the Arrow Keys will also move the selection.
