Description

Keyboard navigation provides all web and app users with a fast keyboard-only navigation capability and is also part of the web accessibility features—It enables users with disabilities to fully control or access their website application through the keyboard.

By default, users can only navigate to links, buttons, and form controls with a keyboard. The navigation order in which interactive items receive keyboard focus has to be logical and intuitive. Generally, keyboard navigation logic needs to follow the visual horizontal and vertical flow of the page, for example, left to right and top to bottom, header first followed by the main and then the page navigation.

The ASP.NET MVC Pager component is always available as demonstrated in this demo.

The Pager supports the following keyboard shortcuts:

Focus

  • Alt + W Focuses the Pager wrapper.

Supported keys and user actions

  • Enter When the Pager wrapper is focused, changes the focus to the first focusable Pager element.
  • Escape When an inner Pager element is focused, changes the focus to the Pager wrapper.
  • Tab When an inner Pager element is focused, changes the focus to the next Pager element.
  • Shift + Tab When an inner Pager element is focused, changes the focus to the previous Pager element.
  • Left arrow When the Pager wrapper is focused, loads the previous page, if it exists.
  • Page up When the Pager wrapper is focused, loads the previous page, if it exists.
  • Right arrow When the Pager wrapper is focused, loads the next page, if it exists.
  • Page down When the Pager wrapper is focused, loads the next page, if it exists.
  • Home When the Pager wrapper is focused, loads the first page, if the current page is not already the first one.
  • End When the Pager wrapper is focused, loads the last page, if the current page is not already the last one.
