Description

Keyboard navigation provides all web and app users with a fast keyboard-only navigation capability and is also part of the web accessibility features—it enables users with disabilities to fully control their website or app access through the keyboard.

By default, users can only navigate to links, buttons, and form controls with a keyboard. The navigation order in which interactive items receive keyboard focus has to be logical and intuitive. Generally, keyboard navigation logic needs to follow the visual horizontal and vertical flow of the page, for example, left to right and top to bottom, header first followed by the main and then the page navigation.

The keyboard navigation of the Kendo UI for jQuery OrgChart is always available as demonstrated in this demo.

This OrgChart example is part of a unique collection of hundreds of jQuery demos, with which you can see all Kendo UI for jQuery components and their features in action. View the source code of the demos from the library or directly adapt, and edit them and their theme appearance in Kendo UI for jQuery Dojo or ThemeBuilder.

The OrgChart supports the following keyboard shortcuts:

Focus

  • Access key + w focuses the first node in the OrgChart

Keyboard legend

  • Down arrow When focus is on a closed node, opens the node. When focus is on an open node, moves the focus to the first child node.
  • Up arrow When focus is on an open node, closes the node. When focus is on an end node or a closed node, moves focus to its parent node.
  • Left arrow Moves focus to the previous node that is focusable without opening or closing a node.
  • Right arrow Moves focus to the next node that is focusable without opening or closing a node.
  • Home Moves focus to the first node that is focusable without opening or closing a node.
  • End Moves focus to the last node that is focusable without opening or closing a node.
  • Enter In editable OrgChart opens the ContextMenu for the focused node. Upon closing the menu, the focus will move back to the item. In grouped OrgChart moves the focus to the first node in the group.
  • Esc In editable OrgChart closes the ContextMenu. In grouped OrgChart moves the focus from the focused node in the group back to the group.
