Description

Keyboard navigation provides all web and app users with a fast keyboard-only navigation capability and is also part of the web accessibility features–it enables users with disabilities to fully control their website or app access through the keyboard.

By default, users can only navigate to links, buttons, and form controls with a keyboard. The navigation order in which interactive items receive keyboard focus has to be logical and intuitive. Generally, keyboard navigation logic needs to follow the visual horizontal and vertical flow of the page, for example, left to right and top to bottom, header first followed by the main and then the page navigation.

The keyboard navigation of the Kendo UI for jQuery Chart is always available and supported by every Chart type, except for the DrillDown Chart.

The jQuery Chart component is part of Kendo UI for jQuery, a comprehensive, professional-grade UI library for building modern and feature-rich applications. The Kendo UI for jQuery collection provides 110+ UI components, an abundance of data-visualization gadgets, client-side data source, and a built-in MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) library.

This Chart example is part of a unique collection of hundreds of jQuery demos, with which you can see all Kendo UI for jQuery components and their features in action. View the source code of the demos from the library or directly adapt, and edit them and their theme appearance in Kendo UI for jQuery Dojo or ThemeBuilder.

The Chart supports the following keyboard shortcuts:

Actions Applied on the Chart Area

  • Right Arrow Moves focus to the next point in the series. If focus is on the last point of the series, moves focus to the first point of the next series.
  • Left Arrow Moves focus to the previous point in the series. If focus is on the first point of the series, moves focus to the last point of the previous series.
  • Down Arrow Moves focus to the next series.
  • Up Arrow Moves focus to the previous series.
  • Tab Moves the focus to the legend area. If the legend is not visible, or if legend position is `top` or `left`, moves focus to the next focusable element on the page.
  • Shift + Tab Moves the focus to the previous focusable element on the page. If legend position is `top` or `left`, moves focus to the legend area.

Actions Applied on the Chart Legend

  • Arrow Keys Navigate over the legend items.
  • Tab Moves the focus to the next focusable element on the page. If the legend position is `top` or `left`, moves focus to the chart area.
  • Shift + Tab Moves the focus to the chart area. If the legend position is `top` or `left`, moves focus to the previous focusable element on the page.
