Highlights of South Africa
Africa provides some of the most epic wildlife diversity on the planet. Not many vacations involve sleeping in close quarters with lions, leopards, elephants, Cape buffaloes, black rhinos, cheetahs, giraffes and hippos. But South Africa is unique in the fact that it has so much unspoiled lands—like the Featherbed Private Nature Reserve at the western head of Kynysna. It’s one of South Africa’s Natural Heritage Sites that can only be reached by ferry. Kruger National Park, a nature preserve in the northeastern corner of South Africa, is 5 million acres. It’s not a zoo so you aren’t guaranteed to see certain animals at certain times. But it’s the lack of predictability that makes a safari so magical. For a more urban experience, walk the Nelson Mandela Bridge and visit the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg.

Kruger National Park
If you’re interested in an all-enveloping trip into the bush, you won’t be disappointed. Kruger is a national park the size of Israel, filled with lions, leopards, elephants, Cape buffaloes, black rhinos, cheetahs, giraffes, hippos and many more species of smaller animals. Not to worry though, Kruger has an extensive network of sealed roads and camps to keep you safe.

Nelson Mandela Bridge
The Nelson Mandela Bridge, which was completed in 2003, is a relatively new addition to the Johannesburg skyline. However, it has already become an iconic structure. The bridge was built to link two main business areas of Braamfontein and Newton and to rejuvenate and modernize the inner city. Visitors can either walk or drive the 284-meter bridge.

The Apartheid Museum
Take some time out from your adventures to learn about 20th century South Africa. The Apartheid Museum focuses on the system of racial discrimination that began in 1948 and lasted until 1994—the year of the first fully democratic elections. Exhibits provide touching and heartfelt narratives of what it was like to live in the racially segregated society.
