Kenya

Adventuring through Kenya is no day at the beach. But those willing to brave this raw and wild area of the world will be rewarded with sights and experiences that will last a lifetime. The Great Rift Valley is home to some pretty unique creatures so don’t be surprised if you have moments in which you question whether you are in fact awake or actually dreaming. If you venture to Kenya between July and October, you will be lucky enough to witness one of nature’s biggest wildlife spectacles, the Great Migration. Catch the wildebeests crossing the river from a hot-air balloon while you sip Champaign and don’t be alarmed if you spot a wild lion, leopard or cheetah down below. Take a hike at Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding volcano on Earth at a staggering four miles high. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the snow-capped summit, only about 50 percent of hikers are able to reach the top.

Thompson Falls

Thompson Falls is a breathtaking waterfall that measures 72 meters in height. It is located just outside Nyahururu in Kenya among African olive and cedar trees in a scenic and tranquil little corner of the world. The fall drains from the Aberdare Mountain Range and pours into the Ng’rio River. Visitors and locals alike considered Kenya’s most impressive waterfall.

Great Rift Valley

Africa’s equivalent of the Grand Canyon, Great Rift Valley is home to animals and plant life found nowhere else in the world. The rift is lined with volcanoes, most still active, including Erta Ale, which holds the world’s only permanent lava lake. The rift is approximately 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) so don’t expect to tour the whole thing.

Nairobi

Word on the street is, if you’re not careful, Nairobi will chew you up and spit you out. Most tourists merely pass through this city with the car doors locked and move along to the next destination. But if you’re willing to brave the “baddest” city in Kenya, you’ll find a crazy nightlife and café culture worth writing home about.
